Organise your WordPress Mail

One of the most important things to do is when setting up your WordPress site is to organise your email client.

You will receive emails from the likes of Tradedoubler and Affiliatewindow  confirming were you have been accepted to programmes and also upto date information on promotions .

I use Outlook and have set up message rules with an inbox for each programme this makes it far easier to manage

MyWordPress so far

I am quite happy how this WordPress site is shaping up.Wordpress is far easier to use then I expected and apart from a couple of error’s on my part the site seems pretty stable.

Want to get more information up about getting a Domain Name and Internet Connections but so far so good.

Who do I use

I mainly use Affiliatewindow on this WordPress site as this covers most of the retailers that my friends and family use.

I have a couple of products from Tradedoubler merchants because a friend asked for them .

Paid on Results is giving me the best return and I find it far easier to use then either Tradedoubler or Affiliatewindow

Adsense and My WordPress

So its been a couple of weeks or so since this WordPress site as been up and running.

I am now beginning to wonder if installing Adsense onto My WordPress site was actually a good idea. When you look at some of the adverts delivered by Adsense they look decidedly dodgy.I am not sure that I want my friends, family or even the casual visitor thinking that I in anyway endorse the majority of these Adsense offerings.

I also think that having the Adsense content within the posts and pages does little to enhance the site presentation.

I will give it some more thought before I remove Adsense from this site while I investigate other ways of monetizing MyWordpress site.

Getting Affiliated

As with most things its not as straightforward as going to your desired site and getting a code. The majority of retailers use Affiliate Scheme Managers to manage their schemes. So first you have to sign up with the scheme manager and then apply to the individual programs to acquire your unique partner code.

There are hundreds of scheme managers so applying to all of them would be difficult to manage and also because each one works on payment periods and payment thresholds it is likely that you would end up spreading your revenue generation over to many schemes.

The best way to start is to write down 3 or 4 of the sites that you ,family and friends ,purchase from on a regular basis.Visit each of the sites and look for who manages their affiliate scheme or partner program.

I will be adding a page on this site shortley that lists the most popular retailers and who manages their schemes so it may be quicker for you to hold fire until this is done.

A small selection are on the Links page

Monetizing The Basics

Now lets look at the basics of getting your money saving links sorted.

Affiliate schemes are were you refer purchasers to a specific site or product through a link on your site that is unique to you.I use this method extensively for the likes of Play etc.

To acheive this you need to get Affiliated to these sites ,this is covered in the Getting Affiliated section.

On this site you can already see the adverts that are displayed from google and also that generally that the ads are relevant to the content of the site. These are generated using Google Adsense.

Basically you sign up with Google get a unique code insert a Adsense plugin on your site put you code in the required place then when anyone clicks on one of the advertisements you earn money.

Now to be honest I have not  had much success with this but this is a new site so time will tell.

Before You Start

Before you start sorting out how to generate revenue ,with your wordpress site, ensure your site is up and running and you have posted some content.

Avoid content of an Adult nature as the majority of merchants are unlikely to want to be associated with this sort of content.

You will be linking with merchants that may want to view your site,if they get site not found errors it is unlikely that you will get approved.

Also keep in mind this is not a get rich quick scheme its about saving money on something that you intend to purchase.

Wp-dTree

This is the plugin that generates the tree menu for the categories section.

Simple to use download, unzip ,copy to you web server then drag the wp-categories to your sidebar.

On this site I have hacked the code so that the posts are in entry order rather then in date descending order.I did this to give a more logical step through of what is required to set this site up.
